Barbara Sheinberg, AICP firm Owner and Principal
Barbara Sheinberg, AICP, is firm owner and principal at Sheinberg Associates, which has been in business since 1989. As a community and strategic planner, Barbara’s specialty is making plans and products focused and action-oriented. She has completed comprehensive, waterfront, and master development plans; and analyzed and prepared topic and community-specific plans for fisheries, economic development issues, non-motorized transportation, land use, tourism, recreation and open space issues and needs. Barbara has also authored NEPA environmental assessments and run varied public engagement processes. Known for clear thinking and analysis, Barbara helps clients build consensus and reduce conflict through a well-guided meetings and planning processes. Her collaborative approach creates widespread support for results. Barbara regularly facilitates meetings of Boards of Directors, scientists, and Federal-State-tribal and local government agencies.
Barbara came to Alaska in 1980 to work as an exploration geologist, and spent her first five years in Alaska jumping out of helicopters all over the state. After returning to school to focus on Resource Planning, her first planning job was for the Municipality of Anchorage. She was later lured to Juneau to work as a planner and policy analyst for the State’s coastal program before settling down and starting her own business.
Barbara is a registered certified planner (American Institute of Certified Planners #014225) and is past Alaska state representative to the Western US Planning Resources Board and served three years on the Board of the Alaska chapter of the American Planning Association. Barbara has a B.S. in Geology (1978, Beloit College) and significant graduate work toward an M.S. in Resource Planning (1983-1985, UAA). She currently sits on the CBJ Board of Equalization and served on the CBJ Planning Commission for five years.
In her limited spare time, she enjoys two wonderful children (now in their early 20’s) and enjoys bicycling and cooking.
